Welcome to Our Website!

'Time Shift' is a classic covers band based in Wigan.
Covering multiple decades of music, although we aren't going to give up our day jobs, each of us have been in bands for years and years.  Whether you want a rock and roll dance party or a quieter coffee house or wedding reception event, we can fit the bill.

Band History

Three of the members of Time Shift, Andy, Ian and Phil, performed with a local band, playing covers of songs from the 1960’s and 70’s.  That group were together for four years with Phil being there at the start, Andy joining after about a year and Ian coming in the following year.  They enjoyed some success and played at venues in Farnworth, Rivington, Bolton, Wigan and Westhoughton, but at the end of 2010, the group split up.  Andy, Ian and Phil decided to continue and recruited a new singer, Luigi, and rather than recruit a new drummer, they opted for an electronic version, resulting in a much tighter sound.
Being in the same age group, they had grown up listening to music from the 60’s and 70’s and although that still represents a large part of their repertoire, they have now expanded their set to include songs from the 50’s onward.  New songs are continually added to their set and the range includes pop, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul and swing.

Phil's profilePhil Murray

Phil Murray - Guitar
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by guitars.  My wife once said that if irons were made in the shape of a guitar, I would probably iron my own clothes.  I'm not convinced about that.
From an early age I recall hearing Lonnie Donegan and later, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and wanting to be able to play like them.  Then I heard Eric Clapton and Peter Green and I knew that I had to learn.  I started learning at the age of fourteen and I'm still learning.
I’ve played in lots of ‘covers’ bands as well as writing original music.  I taught myself to play classical guitar in my late 20’s but blues has always been my favourite music and I eventually returned to playing the electric guitar.
By day, I work as an accounts clerk and at night, I enjoy myself!!  I gave guitar tuition four nights per week along with basic music theory for nearly fourteen years and saw many of my students go on to join groups.  I gave up teaching when my previous group started getting better and I had to learn more and more songs.
Some people play the guitar as a hobby.  In my opinion, they don’t really play.  It was never a hobby to me, it was always much more than that.

Andy’s ProfileAndy Hurst

Long ago I heard a song that really made me want to play Bass guitar.
The song was ‘Seasons in the sun’ by Terry Jacks.
Not everyone’s cup of tea I know but that was the one.
We didn’t at that time have a guitar in the family, but I eventually swapped an old tape deck with a school friend for my first guitar, not a Bass but an Audition semi acoustic 6 stringer. (Woolworth’s £26 at the time!) Not sure what happened to that guitar but it put me on the road to music.
I did eventually get a Bass guitar, Fender precision but in later years let it go in exchange for keyboards.
Had many guitars since then and played in many bands.
I did stop playing for nearly 20 years but was coaxed back into playing a while back.
I am now playing with a great set of lads  Phil (guitar), Ian (keyboards/backing vocals) and Luigi (Singer/entertainer extraordinaire).
We play live music but also have some help from pre recorded studio arrangements, drums string, etc which we record ourselves so it’s still us playing everything.

Ian's ProfileIan Crawshaw
In the 1960’s, I learned classical piano and took 5 exams for it.My mate started to take guitar lessons but he could not read music, so I taught him to read music, and he taught me to play the guitar.
We later formed a trio with my sister on drums and started doing a few local gigs, but it did not last.
However, later, my mate asked me to join his band doing covers of 60’s and 70’s songs.
We were gigging around the North West for about 2 ½ years before strife in the band finished it off.
I gave up playing for about 25 years, (short break), but gradually returned to playing guitar.

Then I met Andy and he asked me to join the band he was playing with and they wanted me to play keyboards again,  and sing backing vocals to fill out the sound, so, here I am.

Luig's ProfileLuigi Vernazza
Being born in the fifties, means like many other people of my generation, I grew up in the decades of superb music, 50s 60, 70s and still yet into todays brilliant array of diverse and entertaining styles.
Because of this saturation of music, my tastes are diverse and endless, though my audiences know me more for my performances of “Swing,” “Ratpack,” and “Romantic Ballads.” Having been a solo performer for many years, with occasional guest spots with revival bands, to be given the opportunity to join “Time Shift” has opened up a whole new avenue of music to explore.
Though not a musician in the sense of  Andy, Phil and Ian, who truly are brilliant instrumentalists, I feel my contribution to be not the front man, but the vocal interpreter of the bands musical talents.
I bring years of stage craft to an already polished act, and I am confident that
“Time Shift” will become a must see attraction at any venue where excellent musicianship, professionalism and dynamic performance is wanted.
